CVE-2023-34035Network attack vector

Authorization bypass via ambiguous servlet matcher selection

Published Jul 18, 2023 · Updated Oct 25, 2024

Incorrect authorization in Spring Security before 5.8.5, 6.0.5, or 6.1.2 allows remote attackers to bypass access rules in affected branches. The string-based requestMatchers overload selects MVC matching whenever Spring MVC is present, without distinguishing endpoints belonging to another registered servlet. Exposure requires Spring MVC, multiple secured servlets, and a string matcher for a non-MVC endpoint, allowing requests to evade the intended authorization rule.
