Cross-site scripting via unescaped single quotes
Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 10, 2025
Cross-site scripting in JStachio before 1.0.1 allows attackers to execute JavaScript in other users' browsers via crafted template data. HtmlEscaper passes single quotes in interpolated values through unchanged, so a value can terminate a single-quoted HTML attribute and inject an event handler. Exploitation requires an application to place attacker-controlled data in such an attribute and another user to render the resulting page; impact is limited to that browser context.
