Filename spoofing via unfiltered bidirectional override
Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 10, 2025
Filename spoofing in MinIO Console before 0.28.0 allows remote authenticated users to conceal an object's original filename. The object-name display renders an embedded U+202E RIGHT-TO-LEFT OVERRIDE control character instead of replacing it, so following characters appear in reversed visual order. A user able to place an object with a chosen name can make the Console show a misleading name or apparent extension to other Console users.
