Root console access via exposed UART login
Published Jun 13, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Exposed UART access in Siemens SICAM A8000 CP-8031 and CP-8050 before CPCI85 V05 allows physically proximate attackers to seek root login. Two PCB vias expose a 3.3 V, 115200-baud serial console that emits boot output and presents a root login prompt after a logic IC is removed. Direct circuit-board access and component removal are required; a guessed or cracked root password grants a privileged device console.
