Authenticated command execution via unvalidated restore field
Published Jun 7, 2023 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Command injection in D-Link DIR-842V2 firmware 1.0.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands. The restore handler loads an uploaded configuration without validating the Telnet Shell field, allowing that field to select /bin/sh as the service program. Administrative credentials and a router reboot are required; the modified configuration enables Telnet and yields a root shell without Telnet authentication.
