Root privilege escalation via traversal-based permission reset
Published Jun 6, 2023 · Updated Jan 8, 2025
Path traversal in CloudPanel 2.0.0 through 2.2.2 allows local users to gain root privileges through its privileged CLI wrapper. The privileged system:permissions:reset command accepts ../ segments in --path and applies mode 777 beyond its intended directory. An authenticated CloudPanel account with SSH access can make /usr/bin/clpctlWrapper writable, replace it with privileged utilities, and obtain a root shell.
