Unauthenticated code execution via incomplete shell filtering
Published Nov 28, 2023 · Updated Jun 3, 2025
OS command injection in Chamilo LMS 1.11.20 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute code through the PPT conversion web service. The wsConvertPpt function inserts filename-derived paths into a command passed to exec() after a denylist strips only backticks, semicolons, ampersands, and pipes, leaving $() substitution and newlines effective. Reaching the public SOAP endpoint requires no authentication and grants command execution with the web-service process's privileges.
