Remote code execution via unbounded time parsing
Published Jun 2, 2023 · Updated Jan 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Tenda AC8 V4.0 firmware 16.03.34.06 allows remote attackers to corrupt memory via a crafted time value. The /goform/SetSysTimeCfg handler sub_4A79EC passes the untrusted value to sscanf with unbounded scansets that write into fixed-size stack buffers. No authentication or user interaction is required; the overwrite can crash the router's HTTP service or support arbitrary code execution.
