Local system crash via unchecked kzalloc failure
Published Jun 28, 2023 · Updated Mar 7, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in Linux Kernel 6.1-rc8 allows local users to crash the system through Broadcom NVRAM parsing. In brcm_nvram_parse, kzalloc can return NULL, but the unchecked pointer is passed to memcpy_fromio and then written at data[len - 1]. The published assessment requires local low-privileged access; the bounded consequence is availability loss without data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
