Root access via trusted LoginStatus cookie
Published Jun 7, 2023 · Updated Jan 7, 2025
Authentication bypass in Planet Technologies WDRT-1800AX 1.01-CP21 allows remote attackers to obtain root access over the network. The lighttpd-hosted cdata.cgi service trusts the client-controlled boolean LoginStatus cookie, so setting it to true exposes administration functions without a password. A network path to the management service is required; an attacker can enable Telnet and use the default passwordless root account for a root shell.
