CVE-2023-3355

Local system crash via unchecked allocation failure

Published Jun 28, 2023 · Updated Mar 5, 2025

NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel before 6.1-rc8 allows local users to crash the system through an MSM DRM command submission. In submit_lookup_cmds() in drivers/gpu/drm/msm/msm_gem_submit.c, the code dereferences a NULL pointer after failing to check kmalloc()'s return value. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access, an enabled CONFIG_DRM_MSM configuration, and a failed allocation; the bounded consequence is a system crash.
