Traffic modification via unenforced SMB2 packet signing
Published Jul 20, 2023 · Updated Nov 20, 2025
Improper SMB2 signing enforcement in Samba on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9 allows remote attackers to modify intercepted SMB2 traffic. The SMB2 server path accepts unsigned connections despite server signing = required or the equivalent mandatory Domain Controller policy. An attacker must intercept a client-server connection whose client does not require signing; IPC$ connections to Domain Controllers remain protected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
