CVE-2023-3341Network attack vector

Named crash via recursive control-message parsing

Published Sep 20, 2023 · Updated Dec 2, 2025

Denial of service in Internet Systems Consortium BIND 9 allows remote attackers to crash named with a crafted control-channel message. Named fully parses nested control-channel packet structures before authenticating them, and recursion bounded only by packet size can exhaust the process stack. Network access to a remotely exposed control port is required, and the default loopback-only configuration prevents remote exploitation.
