CVE-2023-33289Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Disputed service slowdown via URL normalization regex

Published Jun 21, 2023 · Updated Mar 8, 2025

Regular expression denial of service in urlnorm 0.1.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to delay URL processing via crafted URLs. The reported proof sends a repeated A5.html path to compute_normalization_string and attributes the delay to its extension-trimming regular expression. The supplier states that printing the enormous normalized URL causes the measured delay, and GitHub withdrew its advisory, so the claimed unauthenticated availability impact remains disputed.
