CVE-2023-33248Public exploit

Unauthenticated command execution via near-ultrasonic audio

Published May 24, 2023 · Updated Jan 16, 2025

Command injection in Amazon Alexa 8960323972 on Echo Dot generations 2 and 3 allows attackers to execute voice commands via near-ultrasonic audio. The Echo Dot microphone's nonlinear response demodulates 16–22 kHz SUSBAM signals into baseband speech that Alexa accepts as ordinary commands. Exploitation requires crafted audio to reach the device through a nearby speaker or user-played media, and resulting actions are limited by enabled Alexa capabilities and account configuration.
