Privilege escalation via weak API authentication
Published Aug 17, 2023 · Updated Oct 28, 2024
Improper authentication in Moxa TN-5900 Series firmware 3.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain elevated privileges. The web API handler inadequately authenticates requests, allowing low-privilege API access to invoke actions reserved for high-privilege APIs. Network access to the web service and low-privilege credentials are required; successful exploitation permits restricted administrative actions.
