Stored XSS via unescaped indexed volume names
Published May 26, 2023 · Updated Jan 14, 2025
Stored XSS in the Update Asset Index utility in Pixel & Tonic Craft CMS 4.0.0-RC1 through 4.4.5 allows remote authenticated users to run scripts. AssetIndexer.getIndexingSessionRowHtml inserts indexedVolumes names into list markup as raw HTML rather than creating text nodes, so a saved volume name becomes executable browser content. An authenticated control-panel user must create the crafted asset volume, and another user must run Update Asset Index for the payload to execute in that user's session.
