Process crash via unchecked failed output handle

LibTIFF 3.9.0 through 4.5.0 contains a NULL pointer dereference that allows attackers to crash tiffcrop via failed zone output creation. When TIFFOpen cannot create the requested output, update_output_file leaves the output handle NULL, but tiffcrop passes it to TIFFClose, which reads tif_closeproc through the invalid handle. Reachability requires a user or calling workflow to invoke zone selection with an output path that cannot be opened; the bounded consequence is termination of that tiffcrop process.
