Classic buffer overflow in the meta component of MediaTek MT8797 on Android 12.0 and 13.0 allows local users to escalate privileges. The meta component copies input into an output buffer without checking that the input fits, allowing data to overwrite adjacent memory. Exploitation requires System execution privileges and no user interaction; successful exploitation raises the attacker's privileges beyond that context.
