Local privilege escalation via unchecked rpmb write
Published Dec 4, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek rpmb on Android 12.0 and 13.0 allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges. The rpmb component omits a bounds check before writing, permitting an input-dependent write beyond the intended buffer. Exploitation requires local access with System execution privileges, needs no user interaction, and can elevate privilege on an affected chipset.
