CVE-2023-32845Network attack vector

Remote system crash via malformed RRC messages

Published Dec 4, 2023 · Updated Aug 28, 2024

Reachable assertion in MediaTek 5G Modem NR15, NR16, and NR17 allows remote attackers to crash devices via malformed RRC messages. The modem's RRC message-processing path performs improper error handling on malformed messages and reaches an assertion instead of rejecting the input. An unauthenticated attacker within cellular-radio reach needs no user interaction or execution privileges; triggering the assertion crashes the system and interrupts service.
