Remote system crash via invalid CSI report configuration
Published Dec 4, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Reachable assertion in MediaTek 5G Modem NR15, NR16, and NR17 allows remote attackers to crash systems with a malformed RRC message. RRC setup parsing accepts an invalid pucch CSIReportConfig element and reaches an assertion instead of rejecting the malformed configuration. Exploitation requires a target to connect to an attacker-controlled 5G base station; the resulting crash interrupts cellular service without reported data exposure or modification.
