Local privilege escalation via unchecked DPE range
Published Nov 6, 2023 · Updated Sep 5, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in the DPE component on affected MediaTek chipsets running Android 11.0 or 12.0 allows local users to elevate privileges. DPE fails to validate a value against its permitted range before using it for a memory write, allowing the write to exceed its intended bounds. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges but no user interaction, and successful abuse elevates code locally.
