Local privilege escalation via unchecked camera input
Published Oct 2, 2023 · Updated Sep 21, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek camera middleware on Android 12.0 and 13.0 allows local users to escalate privileges. The middleware fails to validate an input before writing through it, permitting an out-of-bounds memory write; MediaTek has not disclosed a narrower function or data path. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges and no user interaction, and successful corruption elevates local execution beyond that security context.
