CVE-2023-32821

Local privilege escalation via permissions-bypass overwrite

Published Oct 2, 2023 · Updated Sep 23, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in the MediaTek video component on affected Android 12.0 and 13.0 chipsets allows local users to gain elevated privileges. The video component writes beyond a buffer after a permissions bypass, but MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function, input path, or bypass logic. Exploitation requires local access and System execution privileges, needs no user interaction, and can escalate privileges on an affected device.
