Local privilege escalation via WLAN out-of-bounds write
Published Sep 4, 2023 · Updated Oct 21, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in the MediaTek MT8797 WLAN driver allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges without interaction. The driver improperly validates input before writing to memory, permitting a write beyond the intended buffer; MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function or input path. The flaw requires existing System execution privileges on an affected device, needs no user interaction, and grants elevated local execution.
