Service crash via JSON parser stack overflow
Published Oct 12, 2023 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
Buffer overflow in zbxjson in Zabbix 6.4.4 allows remote attackers to cause service interruption via crafted JSON input. The zbx_json_open parser copies oversized JSON content into a stack buffer without adequate bounds checking, producing a stack-based overflow in Agent, Proxy, and Server components. Exploitation requires delivery of the crafted JSON to a parsing path and can crash the process; the advisory does not document a working code-execution exploit.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
