CVE-2023-32711Network attack vector

Stored XSS via unsanitized dashboard template

Published Jun 1, 2023 · Updated Feb 28, 2025

Stored XSS in Splunk Enterprise allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in another user's browser through a crafted dashboard view. The dashboard passes a crafted Bootstrap tooltip or popover data-template attribute through URL validation without sanitizing it, preserving attacker-controlled script for later rendering. A low-privileged account can store the payload in 8.1.0 through 8.1.13, 8.2.0 through 8.2.10, or 9.0.0 through 9.0.4, but another user must open the view before browser-side code runs.
