Admin escalation via ignored grantableRoles restriction
Published Jun 1, 2023 · Updated Mar 11, 2025
Improper authorization in Splunk Web allows remote authenticated users on affected Enterprise and Cloud releases to gain admin privileges. The edit_user capability processes crafted web requests without honoring the grantableRoles restriction in authorize.conf. A low-privileged account must hold edit_user; successful exploitation grants full administrator control over the deployment.
