Local privilege escalation via undisclosed BIOS validation
Published Aug 11, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Improper input validation in Intel NUC BIOS firmware allows local users with privileged access to escalate privileges through local access. Intel has not published the affected BIOS component, the rejected input, or the validation operation that mishandles it. Exploitation requires existing privileged local access and crosses a security boundary to gain higher privileges, with confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.
