CVE-2023-32570Network attack vector

Application crash via stale frame error status

Published May 10, 2023 · Updated Jan 28, 2025

Race condition in VideoLAN dav1d before 1.2.0 allows remote attackers to crash applications during AV1 frame decoding. A worker can retain a stale task_thread.error value and pass success to dav1d_decode_frame_exit after another task has reported failure. No privileges or user interaction are required, but exploitation depends on a high-complexity timing window and interrupts only the decoding application.
