Code execution via malformed HMI project parsing
Published Jun 6, 2023 · Updated Jan 7, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in Horner Automation Cscape 9.90 SP8 and Envision RV 4.70 allows attackers to execute code through a crafted HMI project file. The parser at CScape_EnvisionRV+0x2e3c04 fails to validate project-file data before writing beyond an allocated buffer. A user must open the crafted file, after which code runs with the privileges of the current process.
