Authentication bypass via blank-password widget account creation

Published Jun 26, 2023 · Updated Dec 5, 2024

Authentication bypass in Trend Micro Mobile Security for Enterprise 9.8 SP5 allows remote attackers to access authenticated widget endpoints. The WFUser product_user_init function trusts a username from the session_info cookie, creates a missing SQLite user with a blank password, and binds that user to the PHP session. The vendor rates exploitation as requiring low privileges; a published functional chain reaches unauthenticated code execution only with separate upload and file-inclusion flaws.
