Arbitrary file deletion via unvalidated DeleteFile path

Published Jun 26, 2023 · Updated Dec 4, 2024

Path traversal in Trend Micro Mobile Security for Enterprise 9.8 SP5 allows remote authenticated users to delete arbitrary files. universal_mdm.dll passes an improperly validated user-supplied filename to the Windows DeleteFile() API, accepting traversal sequences or full paths. Exploitation requires valid credentials and low-privileged code execution on the target; deletion runs as the service account, which is SYSTEM by default.
