CVE-2023-3243

Session impersonation via reusable authentication hashes

Published Jun 28, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Authentication bypass in Alerton BCM-WEB 3.3.X allows remote attackers to create sessions with a captured authentication hash. The session-authentication mechanism accepts a captured authenticating hash as reusable proof, while password hashes use weakly salted MD5. Access to the adjacent network and a captured hash enable session impersonation, and offline brute force can recover the associated password.
