CVE-2023-32414Public exploit

Sandbox escape via unquarantined archive extraction

Published Jun 23, 2023 · Updated Dec 5, 2024

Sandbox escape in DesktopServices in Apple macOS Ventura before 13.4 allows local users to escape an app sandbox through archive extraction. ArchiveService.xpc accepts sandboxed XPC clients, and its unarchiveItemWithURLWrapper method extracts supplied content without propagating the quarantine attribute. Execution of a malicious sandboxed app is required, after which an extracted app can launch without quarantine outside the original restrictions.
