CVE-2023-32315Known exploitationPublic exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated admin access via UTF-16 path traversal

Published May 26, 2023 · Updated Oct 21, 2025

Path traversal in Ignite Realtime Openfire 3.10.0 through 4.6.7 and 4.7.0 through 4.7.4 allows remote attackers to access protected console pages. The Admin Console authentication filter applies wildcard setup exclusions without recognizing Jetty-supported nonstandard UTF-16 encodings, so encoded dot segments traverse from an unauthenticated setup URL to protected JSP pages. No credentials or user interaction are required, but the Admin Console must be network-reachable; exposed administrative pages can disclose logs and enable administrative actions.
