SYSTEM code execution via unchecked SetPrivateConfig path
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Sep 18, 2024
Path traversal in VIPRE Antivirus Plus 11.0.6.22 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM through SetPrivateConfig. SetPrivateConfig accepts a user-supplied path without restricting it to an intended directory before performing file operations. Exploitation requires prior low-privileged code execution on the Windows host and yields full SYSTEM-context code execution.
