SYSTEM code execution via symbolic-link file creation
Published Sep 6, 2023 · Updated Sep 26, 2024
Link following in the Tablet Service in Wacom Windows Driver 6.3.45-1 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM. The service follows an attacker-created symbolic link when creating a file, redirecting its privileged write to an attacker-chosen location. Exploitation requires the ability to run low-privileged code locally, and successful abuse grants SYSTEM-level code execution.
