Root code execution via unchecked stack copy
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Sep 18, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in D-Link DAP-1360 firmware through 6.14b01 allows network-adjacent attackers to execute code as root. At /cgi-bin/webproc, COMM_MakeCustomMsg copies attacker-controlled request data into a fixed-length stack buffer without first validating its length. Exploitation requires adjacency to the device's network but no authentication or user interaction, and successful exploitation grants root-level code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
