Application crash via crafted BigInt division
Published May 12, 2023 · Updated Jan 24, 2025
Reachable assertion in JerryScript 3.0 allows local users to crash an application through crafted BigInt division JavaScript. BigInt exponentiation followed by division reaches a dividend-limb invariant in ecma_big_uint_div_mod, causing JERRY_FATAL_FAILED_ASSERTION and abort. The published reproduction uses a 32-bit debug build and requires execution of attacker-supplied JavaScript; the demonstrated consequence is process termination.
