Process abort via parser cleanup memory leak
Published May 12, 2023 · Updated Jan 24, 2025
Reachable assertion in JerryScript 3.0.0 allows local users to crash the engine by processing a crafted JavaScript file. An incomplete async for-await statement raises a SyntaxError while leaving branch-list memory allocated, so jerry_cleanup reaches jmem_heap_finalize with a nonzero allocation counter and triggers its zero-size assertion. Execution requires the JerryScript process to parse the crafted local file, and exploitation aborts that process without reported data disclosure or modification.
