Arbitrary code execution via crafted Markdown file
Published May 28, 2023 · Updated Jan 14, 2025
Code injection in Yank Note 3.52.1 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code when a crafted Markdown file is opened. The Markdown preview renders attacker-controlled HTML event handlers with access to parent.parent.nodeRequire, which invokes child_process.execSync to launch operating-system commands. Exploitation requires a local user to open the untrusted document, after which the payload runs with that user's application privileges and can read, modify, or delete accessible data.
