Service crash via recursive INTERSECT query scoping
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Jan 23, 2025
SQL query processing in OpenLink Virtuoso Open-Source Edition 7.2.9 allows remote attackers to crash the database service. The sqlo_union_scope function repeatedly recurses while resolving scope for a crafted INTERSECT expression, exhausting the call stack. No authentication or user interaction is required; successful exploitation interrupts database availability without reported data access or modification.
