Database crash via malformed view table definition
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Jan 23, 2025
SQL statement handling in OpenLink Virtuoso Open Source Edition 7.2.9 allows remote attackers to crash the database server. View-compilation code in sqlstmts.c builds TABLE_DEF structures with three elements instead of the five consumed during recursive view insertion, eventually passing invalid data to stricmp. The published proof of concept uses a DBA SQL connection, while the public record does not explain how an unauthenticated client obtains SQL execution.
