Server crash via recursive view compilation
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Jan 23, 2025
Denial of service in OpenLink Virtuoso Open-Source Edition 7.2.9 allows remote attackers to crash the server via crafted SQL statements. The SQL compiler repeatedly descends through self-referential view and update handling until mp_box_copy faults. A public reproduction uses isql with DBA credentials, while the published assessment treats network access as unauthenticated; the demonstrated consequence is a process crash.
