Database crash via malformed view table definition
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Jan 23, 2025
Denial of service in OpenLink Virtuoso Open-Source Edition 7.2.9 allows remote attackers to crash the database via crafted SQL statements. The SQL compiler builds TABLE_DEF lists with only three slots for views, omitting two expected arguments; a self-referential view then drives repeated sqlc_insert_view recursion until the process faults in _IO_default_xsputn. No authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation interrupts the database service without reported data disclosure or modification.
