Server crash via crafted nested SQL query
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Jan 23, 2025
Denial of service in OpenLink Virtuoso Open-Source Edition 7.2.9 allows remote attackers to crash the server with crafted SQL statements. The query compiler reaches dfe_unit_col_loci while processing a deeply nested CASE expression and terminates; public sources do not identify the invalid memory or state operation. Network access to SQL execution is sufficient, and the demonstrated consequence is a server crash without reported data disclosure or modification.
