Database server crash via excessive index key parts
Published May 15, 2023 · Updated Jan 23, 2025
Denial of service in OpenLink Virtuoso Open Source 7.2.9 allows attackers to crash the database server via a crafted SQL statement. The DDL index-creation path fails to reject an excessive list of key parts before memory allocation, and execution terminates in __libc_malloc. The public reproduction submits a 1,000-column CREATE INDEX statement through isql as DBA; the demonstrated consequence is a server crash, with no reported data disclosure or modification.
