Authentication bypass via unvalidated JWT signing certificate
Published Oct 24, 2023 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Improper certificate validation in NetworkNT light-oauth2 before 2.1.27 allows remote attackers to authenticate with crafted JWTs. Oauth2KeysGetHandler extracts a public key from a supplied certificate and uses it to validate a JWT signature without checking certificate trust or revocation. No credentials or user interaction are required, but exploitation depends on presenting a self-signed or revoked certificate and a matching forged token.
